A creamy and juicy cabernet with currant, berry, walnut and fresh-herb aromas and flavors. Medium body. Savory tannins. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

A cab that offers very attractive currants with fresh sage and basil notes. Medium body. Medium-round tannins and a savory finish. Some pine-needle and balsamic flavors in the aftertaste. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

I like the intensity of the currant-bush aroma here, as well as the roasted herbs and spices just as overtones of ripe blackberries appear. Medium-to full-bodied and quite chewy but rounded out with lots of soft fruit, making it quite juicy on the finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Very pretty aromas of black currants, lavender and hints of citrus rind following through to a medium body. Fine tannins and a fresh and almost salty finish. Drink now

A firm and silky wine with chewy tannins and lots of cabernet character of black currant and walnut. Full-bodied and tight. Needs time to open. Let’s wait and see. Give it two or three years.

ANNUARIO DEI MIGLIOR VINI ITALIANI 2014 / Luca Maroni – 90 punti

Dried berries and flowers on the nose follow through to a full body, with fine tannins and a fresh finish – outstanding. Give it a year or two to come together.

WINE SPECTATOR / 90 pts

Distinctive flavors of violet candy, black currant jam and wild cherry mingle with lively structure in this fruity red. This is intense, yet not overly concentrated or extracted. Long finish. Best from 2014 through 2020. 100 cases made. — BS

WINE ENTHUSIAST / 92 pts

A lovely Cab from Montalcino, with bright berry aromas of blackberry and wild cherry backed by exotic spice, clove, sweet cinnamon and a touch of espresso bean. The wine is firm but smooth on the finish with loads of fruit intensity at the very end.— M.L.

WINE SPECTATOR / 88 pts

Lots of smoky oak, with ripe currant and plum on the nose. Full-bodied, with juicy fruit, cedar and oak and some currant. Medium-to-long finish. A little disjointed now, but will come together very nicely. Best after 2011. 150 cases made. –JS

WINE ENTHUSIAST / 91 pts

Chocolate, cherry, spice and wood shavings are the leading aromas emitted from this hearty Cabernet Sauvignon. Despite its power, it is a beautiful wine with lasting herbal fragrances splashed over tight, firm tannins. This is a big, brawny wine that could overpower many foods, so pair it with grilled beef or roasts. – M.L

WINE SPECTATOR / 91 pts

Tight and steely just now, but there’s loads of fresh currant and mineral waiting to burst through. Full-bodied, with firm, fruit- and mineral-coated tannins and a long, mineral finish. Wait for this one. Best after 2009. 125 cases made. –JS

ANNUARIO DEI MIGLIOR VINI ITALIANI 2008/Luca Maroni
